Ariana Grande calls for fans to stop body shaming
After recent criticism of her appearance on social media, singer Ariana Grande urged fans to be "gentler and less comfortable" about making comments about her and other people's bodies.
She said in a TikTok video that people "pay such close attention to" her physique and that she "wanted to address" any concerns.
That follows user comments about her alleged recent weight loss. The unhealthiest form of Grande's body was being compared to "my existing body," the singer claimed.
"I was on a lot of antidepressants, drinking on them, eating terribly, and at the lowest point of my life when I looked the way you consider my well, but that actually wasn't my healthy," the 29-year-old US star said.
I realise that I shouldn't have to explain it, but I do believe that by being open and vulnerable here, something positive might result. That's the first thing, however I don't know. Many things might look healthy.
"The second point is that you never know what someone is going through," she concluded.
The person likely is working on it or has a support system that they are working with, even if you are approaching them from a kind and caring position.
"Nothing is certain. Thus, treat one another and yourself with kindness.
The upcoming Wicked movie, which is based on the musical of the same name, will star Grande as Glinda Upland. Grande is well-known for pop hits like One Last Time and Thank U, Next. She is also an actress.
She emphasised that "there are many various kinds of beautiful" and advised followers to refrain from saying things like how "healthy, unhealthy, big, tiny, this, that, sexy, non-sexy" individuals may appear, even if they are "well-intentioned."
She responded, "I think we should help each other work towards ways to appreciate someone or to disregard anything that you see that you don't like."We should work to make ourselves and one another safer."
In the past, she has spoken out about her "anxiety" and mental health problems, particularly in the wake of the Manchester Arena bombing in May 2017 in which a suicide bomber killed 22 people.
She is hardly the only celebrity whose weight has drawn a lot of attention. Selena Gomez claimed last month that there were explanations for why a person's body size and shape may alter.
She experiences water retention as a result of her lupus treatment. The 30-year-old singer and actress told her TikTok followers, "I just want people to know that you're gorgeous and you're lovely.
"We all experience bad days, but I would much rather be well and take care of myself. My medications are crucial, and I really believe that they are what make me feel better.
Therefore, no, I'm not and never will be a model."Some social media users on Tuesday criticised the body-shaming culture that gave rise to Gomez and Grande's videos.
One person wrote: "It's ugly, harsh, and unjust especially today for Selena Gomez and Ariana Grande to have to go on a public platform to justify their weight gain/loss due to vile criticism."
Adele, a musician, expressed disappointment in the "brutal debates" regarding her weight loss to Vogue in 2021.
Jonah Hill, who had also lost weight, encouraged his fans to refrain from remarking on his appearance at approximately the same time.
The actor wrote, "I know you mean well, but I humbly beg that you do not comment on my body, good or bad. I'd like to kindly inform you that it's uncomfortable and not helpful.
