Actor Jeremy Renner of The Avengers said he will not allow the memories of a snowplough accident to "haunt" him.
Jeremy Renner is not allowing the memory of his potentially fatal snowplough mishap to "haunt" him.
The "Avengers" actor discusses the incident and his plans for the future in his first interview, which will air Thursday, April 6, at 10 p.m. ET on ABC as part of the special "Jeremy Renner: The Diane Sawyer Interview — A Story of Terror, Survival, and Triumph."
I changed the story from one of victimisation, error, or anything else, he claimed. "I won't let that memory f****** haunt me in that way."
Firefighters and paramedics responded to a 911 call regarding Renner on January 1st, 2023. The caller, Renner's neighbour Rich Kovach, requested assistance over the phone, stating that Renner had been "driven over by a snowcat."
Kovach explained to Sawyer that "there was blood, the amount of blood, and then he was — he was just in such anguish." There was a lot of blood in the snow, and the cries coming from him were horrifying.
Then, when I turned to gaze at his head, it seemed to me to be completely open. I wasn't sure if the white I saw was his skull or if it was just my imagination, but that's what I saw.
Kovach remembered asking his partner Barb Fletcher for assistance at that precise moment.
Fletcher stated, "I just noticed someone lying there with a lot of blood flowing from his head and just grabbed one of the towels." "It only applied pressure while still being folded. I could tell that he was having a lot of trouble breathing."
His nephew Alex Fries, 27, was also on the scene with Renner and claimed to be trying to help him breathe by gripping onto Renner's arm.
He "was awake through every moment," according to Renner. He responded, "I started kicking my legs." "Wow, that one is really messed up, I said. Oh yes, there will be an issue with that thing."
"And I'm wondering, "How does my body look?" Will I merely be a spine inside a brain, acting as a test subject?" In Renner's memory. "Is that the present I live in? I sort of wondered, "What am I — how would my existence be like?"
Renner was initially intubated and endured multiple surgeries before being ultimately sent to the hospital. Renner claimed that because he was unable to talk, he signed "I'm sorry" to his family.
