Grand Admiral Thrawn from the Star Wars television series "Ahsoka" will be portrayed by Lars Mikkelsen.
Grand Admiral Thrawn has at last taken on physical form.
Lucasfilm said on Saturday at the Star Wars Celebration fan conference in London that Lars Mikkelsen will portray the enduring "Star Wars" antagonist on the upcoming Disney+ series "Ahsoka." At the conclusion of the panel, Mikkelsen also appeared on stage with the "Ahsoka" cast.
Author Timothy Zahn first developed the character of Thrawn for a line of Star Wars books published in the 1990s that detailed what happened after "Return of the Jedi" in 1983. In those books, Thrawn is portrayed as an astute and brutal Grand Admiral of the Empire who seizes command of the remaining Imperial fleet and launches a counteroffensive against the New Republic.
Thrawn rapidly won over die-hard Star Wars fans with his ice blue skin and flaming red eyes. To make place for the sequel film trilogy beginning with 2015's "The Force Awakens," Zahn's novels — and Thrawn's part in them — were taken out of the Star Wars canon after Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012 and renamed as "Star Wars Legends."
Nonetheless, the character survived. The character was revived by George Lucas apprentice Dave Filoni in 2016 for the animated series "Star Wars: Rebels," keeping a significant portion of Thrawn's biography and past. T
Thrawnwas voiced in the television series, which covered the events that occurred between "Revenge of the Sith" and "A New Hope," by Lars Mikkelsen ("House of Cards").
